Date Posted: 18:25:42 06/17/02 Mon  The pretty 14 y/o pulled on a pair breeches and twisted her laired blond hair into a bun that rested low on her neck so she could wear a helmet over it.Suzie ran down the stairs from her room to the living roo where her Mom was reading the latest issue of horse illustrated."Mom"Suzie said leanning over her Mom's shoulder,looking at a gorgeous black stallion being riden saddleseat that was on the page of the magazine"Can I ride King pleeeeeaaaase".Helen closed the magazine and thought for a moment."Your going to ride him saddleseat right?"Helen asked"yeah DUH mom"Suzie said Jokingly to her mom."OK but remember to have fun"Helen told her Joking around as well."Oh do I have to"Suzie said in a falsly complaining voice."Yes and thats an order"Helen said smiling at her daughter who was grinning all over her pretty face.Suzie walked out of the living room and over to the back door.She picked up her paddock boots and shoved her feet into them.Then she walked nextdoor to GRF the boarding stable that her family co-owned with Susan's family. Suzie walked into the cool,clean swept barn and picked up a lead rope.Then she walked out to a large paddock where her NEW gelding,All The King's Gold,was grazing quietly.She steped inside the pasture gate and walked over to the GORGEOUS tennessee walking horse.King pulled his head up and looked curiously at Suzie.She held out her hand and he walked calmly over to her.As she attached the lead rope he nuzzled her shoulder and stamped the ground ready to be riden.Suzie laughed and led him back to the barn.When inside the barn,she made sure that he was securly in crossties,before getting the curry comb out of King's tack box.Then she began to groom the elegant palimino gelding. Suzie finished grooming and lifted the saddleseat saddle off the rak.She slid it onto Kings wide slopping back and fasrtened the girth.As she tightned the girthKing turned his head and looked at her with an annoyed expression on his face."OH well if your already annoyed with me I might as well not ride you"said Suzie in an afected haughty voice.King snorted and and tossed his head but looked as though he wasn't annoyed anymore.Suzie finished tightning the girth and adjusted the stirrups to her length.Then she picked up the bridle and stepped up to her gelding's head.He tossed his head high,and it stayed their.She cooed and coaxed and eventually he lowered his head and suffered himself to be bridled.After bridling him she hooked her arm through the reins and strapped on her helmet.Then she led him out to the arena. Suzie stood on the mounting block and gathered up the reins.Then she slid herself lightly onto king's back.She settled herself into the familiar(and to her comfertable) style of saddle(Saddleseat of course).She sat deep in the saddle,her seat quiet and flowing with the movment of the horse beneath her.After 1 circut of the arena each way at the flat foot walk,she gently asked for a rack.King made an easy transition and his flowing rack carried both horse and rider gracfully around the ring.She guided him around the arena afew times.How she had missed saddleseat.Yes she had riden her mom's morgan mare Kiss,who was trained in saddleseat but wasn't all that good at it,plus she didn't have her heart in it she preferred being riden in other horse sports.But now Suszie had her own saddleseat horse and King was also good at many other styles of riding.So she was pretty much good to go.Suzie jerked out of her reverie as King spooked at a bird that had flown out of a tree next to the barn.he shot forward around the ring at a fast canter."whoa settle down"Suzie said relaxing the cantering gelding down to a running walk.She worked a little more and then let king walk."I feel like going on a quick trail ride" said Suzie talking absently to the world in general.She headed King down a shady trail.As they walked down the trail she dropped her feet out of the stirrups and gave King as long a rein as she could.After 5 minutes she turned King around and walked relakedly back to the barn. Back at the barn,Suzie dismounted and led King into ther barn.She took off her helmet and hung it up on a hook.Then she untacked King and and groomed him.As she fastned a cooler onto his back he nuzzled her and snorted expectently."Oh,well you are an intellegent life form"Suzie exclaimed in a "having fun"voice"you know that I almost forgot to give you a treat".She walked into the tack room,where thier was a fridge with bags of treats for the horses.She grabbed a apple and walked back to the aisle where King was standing impatiantly waiting for his treat.Suzie fed him the apple and then clipped a lead rope onto his halter.She led him out around the barn to his stall.It was almost time for the other horses to come in so it was no use turning him out in the paddock.She bolted his stall door and walked back to her house,to take a shower and have dinner.
