Date Posted: 18:23:47 06/17/02 Mon Jess and Alli hopped out of Susan's truck and waved goodbye to her as she drove away."Come on"said Jess jogging to the barn.They both walked inside and stood thinking"I think we should work Feather and Flurry 1st,b/c we can only jump 2'6 with them so it will be like a warmup for us" Alli suggested"OK"replied Jess.They Both grabbed lead ropes and ran out to the paddock where Flurry(Jess's fleabitten,saddlebred mare)and Feather(Alli's flaebitten,arabian mare) were frisking together.Both girls held the lead ropes behind their backs and went into the paddock.The 2 mares stopped playing and looked at them.Then began to thunder across the paddock in the oposite derection from Alli and Jess.The 2 15 y/o girls looked at each other and sighed reconsiled to catching their horses the hard way.Jess and Alli ran back to the barn as fast as they could and each grabbed half a carrot.Then they went back out to the pasture.They both set their lead ropes down out side the gate and walked inside the paddock,holding out the carrots.Feather and Flurry walked over carefully and sniffed the carrots.Then both mares picked up the carrots in their teeth.Jess and Alli grabbed their halter befor they could get away and clipped the lead ropes onto their halters. Alli and Jess led them back to the barn and began to groom and tack up.when they had finished tacking up they buckled on their helmets and led their horses out to the ring. Jess and Alli both swung into the saddle and warmed their mares up then Alli called"There warmed up now lets do that 2' through 2'6 course over there""yeah OK"Jess called from the other side of the arena. They trotted over to the course and Alli prepared to go first"Here I go"she said pushing Feather into a light speedy canter,Feather took the 2'2 oxer easly and sprang lightly through the rest of the course.At the last set of fencs,3 double wides,Feather balked and stoped short infront of the first fence."you silly mare you love to jump,Come on"Alli cooed.Alli turned her around and headed for the jump again.Feather slowed and became hesitant.Alli whacked Feather with her crop and the pretty arabian lept forward over the combanation."Good girl"said alli bringing Feather down to a walk and patting her neck"OK your turn"Alli Called to Jess. Jess pushed Flurry into a fast canter,heading for the first jump.Flurry ran strait out around the oxer and began to buck."You ornery mare"Jess said laughing and trying to calm the excited mare down.Finnaly Flurry was calm enough to try the jump again.Jess dug her heels into the saddlebreds sides and Flurry shot forward.They took the oxer with no trouble.They flew through the rest of the course.When they aproched the double wides Flurry put on an extra burst of speed and wsoared over them. The 2 freinds trotted and then walked down a trail to cool their horses off,talking incessantly.When they arivved back at the barn they dismounted and led their horses inside the cool shadyness of the barn.They untacked and then bathed their horses.The they turned them out in their padock.
