Subject: From the Action News 18 Evening News

(After a short commercial break Action News 18 is back on the air. The host Gretchen Davis greets the viewers, then properly stops smiling for a more serious story.)

-Gretchen: Hi and welcome back...... I can only think of one word to discribe the next story: Disturbing. Here's John Peterson with the report.

(Scene goes from the studio to an open grassy meadow in Bakersfield, CA where John is standing)

-John: I'm standing in what looks to be a perfectly normal plot of land, but that is far from the case. For the past several nights an eerie drum beat has resonated from this place.... We have now an eye-witness account of the occurance.

(An older man dressed in dirty jeans and a slightly torn T-shirt steps to the mic John is holding)

-Man: Well, this has been going on for about a week now. The first night I only heard the drums and a weak chant. But as the week has gone on they've become louder.

-John: So you're saying it appears that more people are joining in?

-Man: Yes, sir. That's not the weirdest thing though. In the course of the week I've lost a pig and a sheep from my small farm.

-John: Really?!?! Did you see the theif.

-Man: Yes, sir.

-John: And did you confront him?

-Man: Yes, but all I can remember is his white suit and white hat, and then him looking into my eyes with his evil stare. From that point on, everything is a blur. Almost like it was a dream. It wasn't though because my animals are gone!

-John: What would he want with your animals?

-Man: Maybe it has something to do with that chanting? I don't know.

-John: Thank you......... Our next witness is not so much a witness as an expert on what is going on. It's Pastor Mike Breaux from Southside Christian Church.

-Mike: Hello.

-John: Do you have any idea what is going on here?

-Mike: This is obviously some kind of sadistic religious ritual. There's no other explanation.

-John: Really? But no religions in this area, in fact few in the U.S. do anything like that.

-Mike: That's why I'm puzzeled, John. Call me crazy but with the drums, the chanting, the animal sacrifices, and the "trance" the gentleman just described, it sounds like Voudon or more commonly known as Voodoo.

-John: Voodoo? In this part of the country? I don't think so.

-Mike: That's the only explanation I can come up with. Sorry.

-John (to the camera) Well Gretchen, there you have it. This disturbing behavior remains a mystery for now.

(Scene cuts back to Gretchen in the news room, she's shaking her head.)

-Gretchen: *sighs* It just isn't making sense. We hope to have more for you as the situation develops. Good Night and see you back here tomorrow.

(Gretchen takes out her earpiece as the Action News 18 music plays and the screen fades.)
