Subject: open letter to the USBA message board...

An open letter to the USBA message board,

Greetings all, first let me apologize for the coarseness of some of the dialogue we have all experienced. Next, let me express my thanks to John for letting the dialogue continue even if it may have appeared, at times, wildly inappropriate on a forum devoted to dogs and their keepers.
John is my good friend, and as tough as they come, name calling won’t dent that guy. But it is a shame.

In the exchange, perhaps lost in the rhetoric, were a few fact-oids and innuendo that I want to address here.

It MAY appear from reading that Andrew purchased four dogs from me, he did not. The one dog he did purchase from me he was dissatisfied with, and I offered that he put the dog down and exercise his right of guarantee...he opted to sell the dog, to an acquaintance (his) in his area.. Deal done.

Next, he tries to drag Ms. Lucinda into the fray...here he nearly got it right, and as there are two sides to every story, Lucinda is completely invited to correct me if I get this wrong; Lucinda, sorry to make our biz so public, under the circumstances I hope you understand.
Lucinda has an amount of money invested in me equal to less than half of what I get for a pup. Lucinda is looking for just the right kind of female to meet her exacting requirements...I am only willing to provide her with that, nothing less God willing. Lucinda wants a tail, so pup needs to be picked at about two days. The first pup ( about three years ago) DK’s Bruiser’s litter-mate sister failed to give me the kind of PennHIP results I wanted...I’m out the cost. Second pup, picked at two days, fails to impress me at 14 weeks...keep in mind, to ship to the U.K., there are strict rules about rabies titer tests...so substitution of pups is not available. I have offered Ms. Lucinda her money back on several occasions and do so now publicly...Lucinda, would you prefer your money now or hold out for a pup...your choice. Now I think you have it right, Lucinda has the last word if she is so inclined.

Last, and I bet this went unnoticed by anyone but me...Andrew suggested that I take a perfectly bred McCallum cow-dog and cross it with a Boerboel to ‘chase cows’. Here is my reply; Why in the name of reason and common sense would you take the product of three generations of World-Class, dedicated and talented dog-men, trainers, and breeders all...and then corrupt their years of selective breeding and countless hours of work in the field, just to create a confused and instinctively mis-aligned cur? I’ll stick to what I know, and I know this...if generations of capable dog-men and women have invested their hearts, their lives, and their best efforts into making ONE breed the best it can be...who am I to pollute and denigrate their legacy by muddling gene-pools down to mere mongrels. The streets and back alleys can do that.

Again, my apologies to the board for the low-tone of this debate,
DKH
