Subject: A McCallum cow dog?
In reply to: DKH 's message, "Re: Can someone explain?" on 11:05:31 05/05/09 Tue

Sorry David, you've got me with that one! I have to ask, what's a McCallum cow dog? In 25 years in dogs, I've never heard of that one! If you're really not having me on, do you have a picture! That's some dog that can catch a cow, mine have their work cut out with the occasional monkey!

As for trainers, real trainers, it's a troublesome area here with trainers as a lot of folks just want out and out attack dogs (because of the violent crime) and some of the methods are somewhat... shall we say, archaic. I was told by two security guards, dog handlers, to throw my gardener's coat over the dog's head and then beat the dog half to death and that way it would associate the smell with fear and always attack! You see my point? I had the local police dog trainer in who has 50 dogs undergoing training at any particular time and he was afraid of the dogs! To find knowledgeable trainers that can recognise what they see for what it really is and not necessarily for what it appears to be, is not easy. Personally, I'm no trainer and can only judge my own dogs on what they can and will do or won't do. I can't get it all from one dog yet with ease, but it's early days in this breed for me, just the 5 years! Give me another 10 and maybe I'll be getting closer!

Show me the cow dog please!

Regards
Jenny
