I prefer about the 4 month mark, but it depends on the rate of growth of the puppy. The food I use has only a slight difference is the puppy formula ingredients, and the adult formula. The puppy formula is 28% protein and 17% fat, while the adult is 24% protein and 16% fat. The ingredients lists are nearly identical, with the exception of egg product, and chicken fat swapping places.

If you look at some adult formula vs. puppy formulas, there are really very little differences most times, assuming you are comparing the same manufacturer, and the same flavors, i.e. chicken, rice vegetable puppy to chicken rice vegetable adult, etc.
