Anyone that forgets that working dogs are bred for traits probably doesn't realize a breed is nothing more than a loosely bred line. And if the breeders don't work their dogs and select on the performance of a specific task, a popular breed soon falls apart in quality as that lacks controlled planning/testing from there being too many cooks in the pot that don't know what they are doing.

You select for traits to perform. Dogs don't read papers. But, performance crosses the finish line first...and that's what matters and that is what causes improvement in the dogs. They are all dogs...and selecting best to best isn't done with papers alone. Papers should ONLY be used for record keeping.
