Dear Suzanne,

Actually I DID bother to post the remarks myself??? You see, my lovely wife Dee Ann and I share a house, a couple bank accounts, a phone bill, etc., and we share one log-on to this board...should I have my own? Have the moderators let me know please.

First, I understand your being p*****d off, after the problems you have been thru, who wouldn’t. Am I to understand that you have a Gordo pup?
Glad you are happy with him.

Let’s get right to it, in your post you say you are going to guarantee me that there are not more confident stable Boerboels (in existence you say) than you have seen at Tashi’s? Here is your immediate problem if you are referring to Gordo, Gordo was whelped on my place, I gave him to Norman, I have visited Gordo on his home turf and at his training ground when he was in Normans care, and finally, Gordo and Norman came to my place after he was grown. I know quite a bit about the dog...you know nothing of mine, in fact, I wonder how many boerboels you have seen at all? Trust me, there exists more stable Boerboels, your guarantee is worthless. I will not hold that against you because as you stated, you are having a bad day.

As to your question about whether my dogs could cut it at your place? I guarantee they would, and my guarantee is good. This is the magic of rock-solid temperament, steady dogs do not suffer from “situational shyness”, “environmental issues”, or any other euphemism that might be circulating around dog-circles to describe weak nerves.

Suzanne, I was the very first guy to show Boerboels doing bite-work on the Internet, I showed up with a fully functioning protection trained dog to the very first SABT appraisal in the United States, (the ONLY one, and over prepared it turns out) and I made it my mission to promote a working Boerboel from the start. I had an open offer to place FREE OF CHARGE Boerboel pups to working homes...this is how Norman came to the breed. I attended events, we held events, we tested dogs, we met lots of Boerboels, we stayed in motels, had dogs at Purina Farms, public parks, big cities, small towns, camping trips, hot-dog roasts where little children walk fearlessly with their food in hand thru a pack of hungry Boerboels...yeah, my dogs get off the farm. But how would you know that? You didn’t know what a Boerboel was back then did you?

As to titles and such? I have a pile of old trophies in the barn from over thirty years ago, I have finished several kinds of dogs at several kinds of disciplines, doesn’t mean a thing if they can’t do the work.
Gordo is a gold-plated example of a dog that has earned a title but is not suited for the work.

If indeed your dog is from Gordo, let me share with you a bit of history, and maybe you can quit being mad at me...you’ve read this much so bear with me.

I got Gordo’s dam from the gentleman credited with starting the registry in Africa...Pardon my spelling...Lucas VanDeMerwe of Mizpah kennels, after much e-mailing and phone conversations, I decided to purchase a pup from him...a price was agreed upon, and then the old gentleman told me he would be sending TWO pups in the same crate...I was buying one and he was GIVING me one. Why? He told me he really liked the idea of testing this breed at their original function on the farm, and then he stated very honestly that the condition the breed was in, he would simply send an extra to ensure that at least ONE of them might work out. He was quite right, Gordo’s mother failed, but the other one made a fine female. The point of this story? They are not all good, regardless of where you get them, anyone of us breeders can get you a bad dog...the trick is to understand this...suffer the loss when it goes bad, cut your losses when you need to, don’t breed for future trouble justbecause it is the best you have available, move forward with only the best of the best.

As for Night Train? We must have gotten lucky.

David
