Sometimes a new building is built over a building that someone has died in and when that person starts haunting the building is different but their path through the building is the same. so if a wall is there and wasn't one before than the ghost will pass through it, this also happens when people just remodel and put a new wall up.
If the building hasn't changed than the ghost won't go through the walls. There are a few way to tell if a ghost is present, you can hear things, see stuff, smell something, sometime you'll feel like you are being watched, and probably one of the most common things to happen is a very big temperature drop, you also see things move.
Make sure, if you've seen or heard something, that before you go screaming you know if it is pk energy (psyco kenetic energy.) which usually is manifested when teens are around, because they have the strongest outlet of feelings.
