Give it time Heath. Water conditions are not that great right now with this pseudo drought we are having, so the birds are only wanting to hit the big water. We went down there today and saw a few woodies hitting the Mallard hole, so they are starting to go back in there. There's not many birds in the area right now, so pickings are kinda slim. When the birds concentrate, then they will start on other holes down there. There will even be a new area in the middle of the field if we'd ever get some rain. When the area was not under season lease, I had two favorite areas down there. Those were the middle tank and the mallard hole. I liked the Mallard hole because I always get ducks there. The borrow pits are more for migrating ducks around fronts, but a few lease hunters did good there last year on normal days. This is why we are offering the season lease hunters a blind or two on Bristol if ya'll can help us ensure getting it. We could potentially hunt 3 blinds out there each day no problem. It'll ease the pressure in times when water conditions are low at Telico.

Chris,
I know it will only get better. We were just frustrated the first day. I can't wait until the next hunt. I guess thats what keeps me coming back. Tell me about this bristol place. I am not aware of this being open to lease hunters. Where is it? Thanks for your help.
Heath

I know the frustration. Skybusters ruined my hunt on the opener, and I was pissed off for a while about it. Just rest assured that pretty much everybody around is not having good hunts. This is typical to not see many birds this time of year. It happens every year, but usually happens 2 or 3 weeks into the season. This year since the seasons are pushed back, it happens to fall near opening weekends. I was down checking on things yesterday, and saw 4 Gadwall on the Mallard hole, 10 or so on the Lilypad hole, 2 Mallards on the Woodduck hole, a load of Gads on the Corner and middle tank, but still none on the borrow ditches. That means no migration going on. There have also been a few woodies hanging around. No body hunted the bottoms this weekend at all, so the opening day everybody hunting is over. There will be very few times when there are more than 2 groups. There's just nothing to move birds right now. The next good front should brang 'em in, but I'm more hoping for rain.

As for Bristol, it is a 400 acre gravel pit area that we have access to. Right now only myself and my dad can hunt it, but we are tryng to convice the landowner to lease it. If he does, we will offer the lease hunters a chance to buy into it. We'll let ya know when the landowner lets us know. Many of the current lease hunters have hunted it in the past, and love the area. It was horrible Sat. since we didn't even fire a shot.
