It's true that money was slashed from the program which comes as no surprise. The current shuttle "Discovery" was pieced together from spare parts from older shuttles. It's been a "cheaper-faster" mindset for some time now.

It will come to light that six people on a safety committee were fired mid-term by NASA because they requested more funding to ensure the safety of our astronauts. Probably won't be the only 20-20 hindsight that will come to light.

My city of Spokane has been grieving for mission specialist Michael Anderson in particular who called Spokane home. May perpetual light shine upon them all.
