Yeah.

I always thought it was such a great gesture when the American doughboys yelled "Lafayette we are here!" when they arrived in France during WWI.

On the other hand, I know what Steve means. They were also real jerks when we asked to be allowed to fly over France when President Reagan bombed Libya and they aren't being very cooperative on the Iraq crisis.

Then again none of our allies are perfect. The British sold military trucks to North Vietnam during the height of the war. Those trucks were used to transport men and arms to the South. I wonder how many Americans they helped kill.

Some of the news commentators expect our allies to act like Soviet puppet states. They miss the fact that the ones that are democracies have to answer to their own electorates. Some are currently going against public opinion polls by supporting the U.S. stance on Iraq. I don't think that there are many American politicians that would do the same thing if the situation was reversed.
