Susan, I know you're not expecting an answer here. I think maybe you just wrote this to get it out. You can't tell them, because they won't listen, but you felt the need to tell someone.

It's going to take a long time for them to forgive you. I don't know what you did, and it's none of my business. But you can't dwell on wanting to change the past. You can't, and it only hampers your efforts now. How long have you been sober? And no, I'm not a therapist or anything like that. I just felt the anguish in your post, and had to respond.

Don't force the issue on them. Keep writing the letters. One of these days they may just open one. You don't have to pour out your heart to them in every one. Just let them know you miss them, and what you're doing now, and that you love them. You may get a lot returned, but one of these days, your parents will read one. They love you, even though they are furious with you.
