It's already October and I can't find anything about locals on the md website

[> Subject: Maryland is in a dire state of chaos, things have been falling apart for the last 10 years and the very few scraps of people we have left just can't handle things anymore. I would wager that we have a very small handful of locals this year, all of which give 2-3 local crowns and then one Sweeps where enough crowns are given to get us to 20 contestants at State.

But our number of contestants, volunteers and sponsors is likely going to be an all time low this year

[> Subject: I think the same. It's terrible that one poor decision could lead to lasting effects on the organization. It's terrible for the girls, they're the ones who will suffer

[> Subject: This is a broken program that desperately needs rescuing. It's going to take at least 10-15 years to rebuilt this program. I only hope that the stars align and the right people get the steering wheel in their hands.

So sad - I remember spending many an Autumn day doing Maryland pageant-related things - local teen pageants, festivals/fairs with friends, now that's all gone.

[> Subject: ANOTHER LOCAL BITES THE DUST!!! Thanks Sherri for alienating yet another group of dedicated volunteers!! At this point I am CONVINCED that Sherri & her little group have a vendetta against Miss Md and their goal over the last 10 years has been to DESTROY the program. `

[> Subject: So, it has been a fantasy of mine to start up a MD local, but I have NEVER been involved in any capacity (also, I don't even live in MD), but I'm curious - what does it take to run a local? Ball park shoe-string budgets for production, marketing, etc? I'm a director and producer in NYC (also actor), so I have production experience. I'm originally from Glen Burnie and would consider starting a local there. I saw a Miss Glen Burnie local pageant (or maybe Miss AA Co.) at the Glen Burnie Mall one year (I think mid-80s) and the girl who won was Kelly Koehler (before she was Miss MD USA). CLICK IN

I've also thought of perhaps starting a Miss BWI or Miss UMBC (my alma mater). This is truly just a seed kernal that's not even germinating yet, but I'd love to know what it would take. Thanks!

[> Subject: Looks like there are 5 locals on the calendar. Many states smaller than MD have *already* had more than 5 locals but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

Author:
doubt that many girls will compete this year anyway - why haven't we switched to an open state pageant again?

[> [> Subject: An absolute shame that a diverse state with a population of 6 million, #1 in the US in median household income, with over 247,000 undergraduate students enrolled across dozens of diverse colleges and universities, and in December we can't get more than 5 locals on the calendar.
