According to British reports following the capture in-tact of an Elll in April 1916, "the lateral control was not good and the fore and aft control distinctly bad."

A captured German pilot stated that the Elll was difficult to fly in a wind. In a mock combat between the captured German machine and a French Morane- Saulnier Type N Cecil Lewis wrote "It was immediately clear that the Morane was all over the Fokker. It climbed quicker, it was faster on the level and the Morane had everything its own way."
