Subject: Chapter 4

I heard a pastor say once that Jeremiah was known as "The Weeping Prophet" She said, "how would you like that, to have to say, Jeremiah, you know the weeping
prophet stopped by today. What a horrible thing to be called." He received this moniker because of his constant message of doom and gloom. In this chapter we see
him communicate that God almost begged His people to turn from their evil ways. We see Jeremiah almost comparing the people to children who don't know any
better. Verse 18 says "... This is your wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reaches to your heart." The punishment was because of what the people did, not
because God wanted to punish anyone.

Voyager Application A footnote for verse 22 says, "Right living is more than simply avoiding sin. It requires decision and discipline." I think of the Vulcans. I believe
they do have a spiritual side. They meditate and almost compress their feelings so that they will not give into the pit of hatred and anger that they are capable of. God
doesn't want us to live lives where we don't have joy. Christ brings us joy. However, that joy happens when we temper our fun with disciplined following of the right
style of living. Avoiding certain, or even all, sins is not good enough. We have to be in relationship with God and for that reason choose not to sin and repent when
we do.
