This is my story, Rhodri's story. It telled of my life before my sanctuary, of endless pains of slavery, almost giving up, but saved by a tiny ray of hope. It is told in the third-person and in normal speech to make it more understandable. It needs a lot of work still.
Born in a small holt of sea otters, situated at the edge of the sea, far north from Salamadastron (to give you an idea of where he lives), was a young sea otter dubbed Rhodri Aidryn. The son of Kieran Aidryn and Mordren Aidryn, Rhodri's first two seasons were happy and simple. Nothing was going wrong for the hold. Food was plentiful and attack from vermin seemed very unlikely. No beast seemed apprehensive of what might lay ahead.
That was the holt's fatal flaw.
Upon the dawn of Rhodri's second season a motley array of vermin made their descent upon the holt, catching them of guard. Luckily few were killed, for the vermin's were looking to enslave the otters, not kill them. Bound in heavy shackles of iron, they made their way to the fortress of the vermin, who were led by the ruthless fox, Oreanx Sabreclaw. It was a long and hard journey and many of the young perished on it. Rhodri and his family, however survived the journey. At the end of the journey those that survived were enslaved at Fort Carthax, where Oreanx was king. Through the work in his two seasons here Rhodri built up his strength. This was not only how the sea otter Dibbun was changed. His spirit was almost broken by the whip of his captors. He could see little hope.
Until...
freedom was at hand.
While they were enslaved the otters planned their escape. The men would revolt, distracting the guards, allowing the women and children to steal away in the night. All agreed that if they did not survive the revolt, or were executed afterwords, sacrificing themselves for the freedom of those they loved was well worth it. The revolt was a success, allowing all of the women and children to escape. Instead of fleeing in one group, the escapees split up, Rhodri going with his mother. In half a seasons time Rhodri and his mother made it to Redwall, their sanctuary.
