My bio, eh? You really wanna hear it? Alright. Settle down and make yourself comfortable, it's long.
I was born into a family of ten mice children. I, saldy, was the youngest. If any of you are younger siblings, you know how it is two have one or two mean guys older than you. But me? I had to deal with nine. 7 brothers and 2 sisters. Nutmeg, Acorn, Shay, Twig, Zinnia, Mat, Kare, Milly, Tuffle and me, Tamarind Longtail. My parents: Ginger and Linden were big adventurers. they traveled all over Mossflower, giving messages from one beast to the next. They took the eldest girl and boy, Kare and Mat, with them. The rest of us had to stay with Auntie Azeala. Auntie Azeala isn't really our aunt. And thank goodness she isn't! Azeala is a crabby old shrew who lived next to us. She was the meanest, stinkiest, oldest, crabbiest creature we had ever known. Of course, she was nice and pleasant with our parents, but as soon as they left, she put us to work.
Auntie Azeala owned a cooking store. Creatures would come from all over Mossflower to buy her foods. But with a lot of food comes a lot of mess. And who cleaned it all up? Nutmeg, Acorn, Shay, Twig, Zinnia, Milly, Tuffle and me. Believe me, we hated every bit of it. In my youngest years ( I was but 3 or 4 seasons old at the time ) I knew nothing but cleaning. I washed and dried the pots and pans. Then, I put them in the drawers. I dusted and polished and scrubbed and washed and dried all day long until it was time for supper. Each night, I had a roll of bread that was partially stale and a cup of moldy water. of course, Azeala dined on her own delicious creations: pies, salads, soups, wines and cordials. Our parents would be gone for weeks at a time. Finally, when they came back from their travels, we tried to tell them how horrible Auntie Azeala was, but Ginger and Linden never beleived us.
On one such occasion, when our parents had just come home, they sat us down at the long wooden table. My mom declared, "Before we eat dinner, we need to have a family council." I groaned. Milly shouted, "But we're hungry! Aunt doesn't feed us at ALL!" The rest of us nodded in agreement, but my father shook his head. "Nonsense! We paid Azeala 2 gold bars to take good care of you. She fed you fine" My siblings and I sighed. Our parents were so stubborn! Ginger continued,"Well, you won't have to stay with your Auntie anymore..." We all cheered. She continued, "We are sending all of you except for Kare and Mat to Redwall." I cried in outrage. Nutmeg screamed. Ginger ingored our cries of protest," You will like it there. It is a more stable enviroment for you. they have schools and good food and nice beds and such. It is perfect for you. they even have a nice badger mother to take care of you!" Now, I look back on this. Ha! Nice! I think not... Anyways... My siblings and I were all so upset. We did not want to leave to go to this strange new place called Redwall. It sounded so foreign and different. But they was nothing we could do about it. Our parents had set their minds on sending us, and so we would be sent. The next morning the eight of us set out with our parents to this Redwall. Mat and Kare stayed behind to keep up Mom and Dad's buisness of messages.
The morning was cold and misty. We were all bundled up with old blankets, but we were still cold. Because we lived around the area of Salamandastron, it would be a long and slow journey for us. Although I was the youngest, I was the fittest and strongest. I was cold, but i didn't think the journey was too bad. My sister Twig didn't fare as well. She was 3 seasnons older than me, and her real name was Gladiola. But no one called her that anymore. We called her Twig because she looked like one. Twig was thin and unhealthy. You could see her ribs through her skin, and her wrist bones almost jutted out of her skin. Twig's eyes were gray and sunken, and she said hardly a word to anyone. After only three days of walking, Twig died. She just fell over and died. I was overcome with grief. But it didn't seem to phase my parents. "We should go back," I complained "This journey isn't safe for us!" But my father shook his head. " Twig would've wanted us to finish this journey..." I looked at Milly. She had a look of pain in her eye. We both knew that Twig detested the idea of moving. If I hadn't loved my siblings so much, I would've thought it was funny how we all started dropping like fleas. Nutmeg fell into a pit and was paralyzed. we had to leave him behind. Acorn, who knew Nutmeg the best wanted to stay with him. My father said no. We kept on walking. When we woke up the next morning, Acorn was nowhere to be seen. He had left a note saying that he was with Nutmeg. Milly suggested we go back and look for them, but my mother just shook her head and kept on walking.
For those of you keeping track just me, Milly, Shay, Zinnia and Tuffle were left.
