I am the daughter of Vren Darkmask and Marrat Nightstorm. My mother, Marrat, was a member of Vren's band, but became a goodbeast. She left my father, who was broken hearted. Two days later I was born. One weasel from my father's band thought that my mother was to blame for my father's sadness, which was causing them to lose battles. He snuck away one night, five days after Marrat had left. He tracked her down and killed her. He took me and presented me to my father, thinking he would be rewarded. Vren slew him with one thrust of his cutlass. Vren named me Kryl (pronounced cruel) to remind me not to become a goodbeast like my mother. Later, an old squirrel that they had captured stole me away and escaped. Of course my father followed him, but my captor/rescuer eluded him. He brought me to Redwall.
