The proposition by Pro Engan to have a database of skilled people for the whole of Enga is a very good idea, however the Enga provincial government would need to buy into this idea and will have to manage it well and use it for it's intended purpose. There is no use having a database if it isn't going to be used.
Now back to the Lagaip Porgera electorate, I would like to acknowledge the comments by Engan Lenge to have a secure internet forum where people will have to log in with their true identity. For open and constructive discussions, I think that is the way to go, I am sure Freddie will work this one out.
It's good to see Steve has immediately taken this idea on board and is working with Freddie to get the database developed. While on that we must not loss focus on why we need to develop the database. It will be a source of information for the MP to request assistance when required from skilled people from the electorate. Now this is the catch, the services rendered should be on a voluntary bases. A small amount of monetary payment can be provided to the person providing the services, but will only be a form of appreciation for the free services that would be provided for the love of our people.
I used this illustration to explain to TapuMalo once when I caugth up with him in Sydney, so I'll probably do it again here, Because he is one of the district's Economics graduates who will be graduating with a maters soon, If the member for Lagaip Porgera asks him to write up a project proposal for an AusAID funded project for the district and if it did get through for funding, the electorate should probably reward him with some financial incentive. The important thing is, he has contributed towards the development of the district and for that he should be happy and satisfied. This is translating your skill to benefit your people. I suppose with 10 million Kina, not everything will get implemented but atleast the brains from the district can be utelised well to spread this money effectively with maximum benefit for the people.
Unfortunately, I am not in the country to organise a meeting of such but I am sure the MPs office will be able to put out a notice for all professionals/trades people from the district to get together. Steve, I think this needs alot of planning and organsisation so hopefully the services of the UPNG students from the district is needed here to arrange the first meeting. Can you liase with the MPs office to further progress this?
