Let me preface this by saying I have experienced the magic of puppy liter whelping ... it was a very powerful and moving experience I wish I could go through again and again in my life, but ...
I am wholly and completely against breeding ... would you (as a man or woman) like to be led around until your master determines it a convenient time for you to mate, only with one of the opposite gender of his/her choosing, and have him/her profit off your offspring as a result of the mating (not to mention keep you from your mate), not allowing you to keep your family?
Dogs, wolves, cats, horses, deer and a variety of creatures from domestic to highly exotic are force bred ... and regardless of how 'gentle' encouragement is, when its you doing the arranging without either the will or intent of the actual 'matees,' its forced ... for what? The pleasure of the creatures we subject this to ... or our own profit (both financial and emotional)?
And what of those we deem unworthy to participate ... an ear to floppy, fur the wrong color, or not purebred enough? What of the tens of thousands of creatures (dogs, cats, horses, exotics) killed because they are unwanted? Why do we value one living creature over another so much we're willing to pay to have one created for us, instead of accomodating one already here in need of a home and family?
I don't care how people wheel and deal in stamps, gemstones, cars, baseball cards and other possessions, but I can no longer swallow the strongly-accepted-and-passed-down notion of living beings treated as commodities to 'create,' trade, sell, and write off and cast aside undesirables as 'defective inventory.'
I do understand this seems a very ungracious, unforgiving, spiteful and hurtful belief, but its not one I'm likely to give up. I will never buy a living being, nor will I ever subject any beings in my care to this sort of treatment. I don't care how 'pampered' and 'well-treated' one treats one's "property" nor how much of the revenue goes toward the care of one's remaining "inventory."
