Subject: Breeders should close a registry...
In reply to: SoloWolf 's message, "The Ideal Situation" on 03:46:54 10/02/00 Mon

I was not too sure if breeders of wolfdogs should have a closed registry and not back cross in order too keep good sound wolfy wd's...
I wanted it to be possible but doubted it was, until recently [june 2000] when i went to see like 30 Saarloos and Czech wolfdogs.
The Czech wd's are definitely identifiable as wolfdogs altho they dont look like wolves [they are a working breed], and Saarloos WD's look very much like wolves are acting quite very wolf-like. those two breeds have closed registries and are only 25% wolf on the paper. still, i suspect that saarloos wolfdogs are consistantly more than 25% when it comes to look and behavior. That proves imho that it is possible and that wd's dont become just another usual akc registered breed of dd's when you close the registries and stop backcrossing.

ok, i was just passing by, just my .02 ;)

PS: see those breeds for real, not on pictures, i was quite surprised how different they look in real. they must not be photogenic
