I'm a long time fan, too - have been pretty much from day one. Having been a young child in the '70s and having older siblings into the '70s rock scene, I guess it kinda rubbed off onto me and set up the foundations for me being the proud 'rock chick' I am today! However, over time I think we mature and evolve into something else - we all change the way we express ourselves as we grow older (ie. in the way we dress, what we listen to, the people we hang out with, etc) - it makes us who we are present day. Therefore, I totally support a band who changes their style over time - they've as much right to express themselves whichever way they see fit as we do...and unfortunately, they have to do it publicly and sometimes cop criticism, where most of us do not. I can't think of anything more boring than a band who plays exactly the same style of music throughout their entire career - how stifling it would be to a musician if they were expected to churn out the same kinda stuff year after year! I like it when bands experiement with different styles/ideas...and even if it doesn't entirely work, at least they've had the guts to be who they want to be. Personally, I can't find any flaws in the path of Shihad/Pacifier's musical career and am right behind what they are doing now. I'm looking forward to seeing them play in Newcastle next week! Bring it on!! :o)
