Lucy is the funniest character, but most tragic, I think.

Flonnie Rogers is a character in his book 'handling sin'. The Hayes family in Red Clay, is the white family Flonnie Rogers works for.

Now Charmaine was probably your ultimate southern girl -- at least my perception of southern women. I mean can you believe she would rather go to jail first before she would air her dirty laundry? Tilden Snow is a descendant of one of the families in 'Last Noel'.

I am enjoying Red Clay, Blue Cadillac. Malone's created some funny, funny characters but as far as "Last Noel", it's still my favorite.
