Subject: I should not be allowed out of the house!

So I go to Waldenbooks today. Why, I do not know. It's not as if my house can't already double for a damn library! I have a zillion books waiting for me to read them. And what do I do? I go get MORE! (at least I am a "Preferred Reader" and get discounts)

I got the only Michael Malone book they had in stock, "Dingley Falls". Good Lord! That book's thick enough to stun an ox! There's a cast of characters listed at the front (so wacky they make Llanview look normal), and it's two pages long. I've only just cracked it, so I can't really say much yet. So far (about ten pages) so good. I had to order the Cadillac one; should be in in a week's time.

Got three Jodi Picoult books (I really like her style of writing): Mercy, Plain Truth, and The Pact. They all sound so good from reading the back jacket that I don't know which one to start with.

Also picked up "Lucky" by Alice Sebold, and "Wicked" by Gregory Magiure. Already read Wicked, but it was a friend's copy. I wanted to have my own.

I was good, for me. I didn't buy any hardback books at all (even though I really really wanted Jenifer Warner's new one, and Alice Sebold's new one). And I got away for under $100 (not $1,000 as I had typed origianlly to Lafaux in IM and almost make her choke!).

And you know with all these damn books I got, I probably won't get through a single one in time for any of the various book chats I'd like to be involved in, LOL!

I bought Michael Malone's "Delectable Mountains". I am almost finished with Red Clay, Blue Cadillac. I get so into each character of each short story, I am sorry the story is over.

While sitting in the coffee shop at Books A Million I read a couple chapters of Delectable Mountains. I am enjoying it -- I love Malone's sense of humor.

So far I've read: Uncivil Seasons, Times Witness, and First Lady, Handling Sin and Last Noel; and like I said I am almost finished with Red Clay.

I understand where you are coming from -- buying books is the last thing I need to be doing. I have a whole bag of books that a friend lent me and two that I have started and not finished. For some reason I am hooked on Malone right now.

Fortunately I didn't pay full price. I found White Oleander for $2, Scott Turow's latest novel for $4, and a Miken Connelly book for $3, all in very good condition. I have so many books to read.
