Subject: IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE?

I am a big supporter of the concept of FMLA. Those that know me have just fell out, but it's true. The problem is, congress got involved and instead of a really good plan, you end up with a program with more holes that Prince Albert in a can. For you non-pipe smokers - aw, never mind. Let's face it, if you can't run a scam on this program you should probably have an MRI to see if there's anything between your ears. Before anybody gets all butt hurt, I'm sure there are a few legitimate cases that warrant an FMLA coverage. So please by all means I am not talking about you, because yours is clearly legitimate (and everyone in prison is innocent). But I do seriously doubt the percentages that we have. I won't put blame here because I suspect it's often done for protection against management and their sometimes inability to think of the well being of their employees over a sick leave percentage. These are the managers (again, exclude yourself of course) will do things just because they can. Here's my point. You've got a doctors appointment, but you get denied the time because: the post office can't afford to have you off for an hour or two. Evidently if you have FMLA you won't be missed. Because it's ok for that person. Wha??? Can you say disparity of treatment. Their doctors appointment is more important than mine? Excuse me? There is nothing I can think of that justifies this thinking. Employees at the post office have similar days off and to require one person to have his appointments on his day off and the other is allowed to schedule his during work hours is crazy. And the ELM (that's evidently like holy scripture) says that sick leave can be used for medical appointments (and not just for FLMA folks). I think this a case of management doing things just because they can - and in this case is rather unconscionable because it deals directly with the well being of the employee. There is an escape clause though as in most poorly thought thru laws and plans - call in sick for the whole day.....problem solved.
