Subject: Cookware question

My DH was boiling water and let one of stainless steel pans go completely dry and now it is discolored in the bottom, my question is is it safe to use and what will take the discoloring out? Hope someone can help me. by the way, I told him to stay out of the Kitchen if he can't boil water without burning. LOL. really he is a sweetie and even helps me cook, but this one time he messed up. Hugs, Bev(meme)

I'm not an expert but I would say that it is still usable.
Try tomato juice to get the stain out.
Good Luck! Denise

What about trying to scour it with baking soda? or salt? Of course my granddad always said if you cook it on you can cook it off. Maybe try simmering it with dish soap in it. You never know. Thats my two cents worth. LOL God bless DEBinOK

I know it is safe to use after you clean it.
Not sure if your pan is burnt on the bottom or just discolored. If discolored try using cream of tartar and water and boil. If burnt try using "Bar Keepers Friend" (found at the grocery store by the cleansers such as Comet) it does a spectacular job on stainless steel pans. Second thought try the Bar Keepers Friend either way and see how it goes. Hope this helps

Connie is that Bar Keepers Friend a pumic stone? I burned rice in my pan and boy is it there. Never to come out. I used a Chore boy like thing, a metal wad, and tried scrubbing and scrubbing and now it is just stained. I do use it but would like to get it off. I have tried cooking tomato juice and baking soda but it stays stained. I also got some oven cleaner. That didn't work either.

Thanks for all the input, I have tried some of your hints, the stain is still there, next time I am at Wally World I will see about the Bar keepers friend. You girls are the best! Hugs, Bev(meme)
