Wow, great question. As an employee of a non-profit, I have seen the use of technology increase in our sector a great deal. That doesn't mean that we have found the funding to tap into it, but it is there. It is interesting in the number of web-sites for non-profits that have started using web giving as a way of raising funds. We are just now in the process of setting up our website to raise funding but to also announce ways to get involved in our agency. In another effort, we have merged another agency with ours and as a consortium of 8 other agencies we will have a central data base for all of these agencies to tap into. We are also using more and more internet classes for our staff to access training as they spend so many hours with our children. It is a great way to allow them to accumulate required hours at no charge to them. I know this is all one type of technology, but it has made a huge impact. We are also in the process of putting computers in all of our classrooms and we will be networking them together so that we can hold staff meetings during nap time with all of the teachers. I hope this works. We still have not made it into the world of having voice mail as of yet, but I know that when we do it will make a great impact on the amount of work we will be able to accomplish. We receive on average about 50-55 phone calls per hour and with three of us that answer the phones, we just don't get much else accomplished. If anyone has suggestions, I would gladly take them on how to streamline more effectively!
