Subject: What an election!

It seems almost inconceivable that we have come to this point. Here we are, three days after the election and still no President.
And probably won't have one for another week or maybe longer.
Lawsuits filed in behalf of the voters in Palm Beach because the ballots were confusing, recounts that turns up many more votes than were originally thought, 19,000 ballots that were thrown out because of double punches and still, partisan politics.

But what I want to address now is how did these "lost votes" that were found in the recount become lost in the first place.
Sloppy election workers? Miscalculations? What?
And if so many disputed votes turned up just in Florida, how many are there nation wide?
The last election that could even be considered close would be JFK vs Nixon. And Nixon conceeded in that one.
Perhaps we may have had a different history if there were recounts in that race.

Still, the problem remains of the "process" itself.
Why can there not be one standard ballot for the entire country? And have it explained clearly, before election day to all in the media and sample ballots mailed out the week before. Like a practice test. This way people would know exactly where and what to choose before they went into the booth.
It would save time and confusion. Or perhaps mail out the actual ballot to be filled out at home. Then come Tuesday, you take it to a polling location, have your ID and other information confirmed by an election worker, and drop it into the locked ballot box.
It seems the most simple ways are often the ones most invisible to government.
