- Assignment #2 -- Christina Jockish, 19:41:20 01/26/07 Fri
This is the website I found about corporal punishment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporal_punishment
My opinion on corporal punishment goes both ways. If you have to repeatedly tell a child they are doing something wrong and they choose not to listen to you then you should maybe spank them, you dont have to do it super hard to where you hurt them but hard enough so maybe they will remember not to do it again. Now I do not think they you should spank a child if they do not know any better. I can say that I probably would not do it to my child because I would be scared to.
I do think there is a difference between the parents and the teachers spanking the child. I do not think it is the teachers decision on whether or not the child should be spanked for something.
No I do not think there is a difference between nurses and teachers regard to corporal punishment. Again it is not the nurses decision on how the child is punished.

Assignment #2 -- Kenita Cherie Turner (Tired), 16:17:35 01/26/07 Fri
I found these two websites on corporal punishment: http://www.onlineopinion.com.au/view.asp?article=1975
www.educationworld.com/a_issues/starr/starr051.shtml
I am a Christian and I do believe in corporal punishment. People have taken it out of context in not knowing the difference between a spanking and a straight up beat down. It is to be done out of love. I do agree with taking away privileges, but only secondarily to spanking. Now, primarily if a child is doing something wrong that they may not know is bad or understand then I will of course talk to them and explain what they are doing and why they cannot do it anymore. But, if after that they relentlessly engage into what they know is wrong then comes discipline. Afterwards you are to talk to the child and explain again the effects of disobedience and why they are not to disrespect rules more so their parent. I've only had four and they were all before the age of 6 (during those critical developmental stages). That is the purpose of it, to demonstrate cause and effect so that as they progress it will aid them in making proper decisions. "Train up a child in the way he should go so that when he is older he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
Teachers would have more of a use for it than nurses would. I know in my parents hometown when the children did not have their homework they'd get a hit on the hand with a ruler to encourage them to do it. In the classroom, if a child is totally unruly after verbal warnings have been issued and consist disorder abrupts towards the teacher then I don't see anything wrong with a paddling supervised by a psychologist. But nurses I really don't see the need, they deal with unruly sick people, I think they have a reason to be a little uncooperative if not feeling well.

- Assignment #2 -- Michael Pertl, 13:39:10 01/26/07 Fri
The website I found on spanking is: http://www.psychpage.com/family/library/disc.html
My opinion on corporal punishment is that it should not be used because if you want to teach children that hitting isn't the correct way to solve a problem then you shouldn't spank them. I have no personal experience with corporal punishment. When I was little, my parents would take things away from me if I acted badly.

I found these websites on corporal punishment http://www.corpun.com/, and http://www.stophitting.com/disatschool/facts.php.
I have never really given corporal punishment much thought before. I have mixed feelings on this issue. I was spanked sparingly by my parents when I was younger and I can't really think of any damage it left. I don't think I would spank my children if I had any. I would probably feel too bad about it.
I defenitely don't think that teachers or nurses should have the right to administer corporal punishment, unless there was a major behavioral issue that had to be dealt with. Essentially, I think it's just better to steer clear of corporal punishment these days. Things have changed and so has the way people deal with eachother and their children

- Assignment 2 -- Ashle Clay, 17:31:49 01/23/07 Tue
These two websites discuss corporal punishment: www.endcorporalpunishment.org and www.neverhitachild.org
In my opinion corporal punishment should not be used. I feel that corporal punishment is not utilized for the well-being of chidren, but to instill fear inside of them.
Certainly there is a difference between parents spanking their children and teachers spanking them because teachers have no emotional connection so there's a chance they will go too far.
As far as differences between teachers and nurses using corporal punishment there is none because neither should be allowed to.

My opinion is that corporal punishment can be an effective tool. There is a clear difference in corporal punishment and child abuse. As a parent, there may be a need to discipline my child. I would use corporal punishment if need.
There is a difference between teachers and nurses in regards to corporal punishment. In certain instances it may be necessary for teachers, however for nurses I am not quite certain if there would be a needed.

Assignment 2 / Corporal Punishment -- Timothy Harris (Sick), 16:02:08 01/23/07 Tue
Here are two links that discuss corporal punishment: http://www.corpun.com/ and http://www.religioustolerance.org/spanking.htm
Personally, I have known corporal punishment to be effective, Howver, my parents were very disciplined as to how they would administer the punishment. There are many cases in society where individuals come from abusive environments, therefore causing many of these abused individuals to ignore this type of punishment.
I do not believe that there is one correct answer to the question of using corporal punishment, however I do believe that it should be an option for schools to use, but only with the permission of a parent/gaurdian.
The act of corporal punishment as a tool for disciplining a child, in my opinion, losses it's effectiveness as the adolescent gets older. For example, corporal punishment (again in my opinion) would serve better as a disciplining tool for a child in an Elementary school then it would for a teenager in High school.
With keeping corporal punishment as an option for scholls, I believe that there should be controled steps of action to take before administering this punishment, as well as a single staff member to administer the punishment.
As far as teachers and nurses using corporal punishment, I believe that if there is an incident which calls for a teacher/nurse to call for this punishmentthen they should present their case to the appropriate superior, who would then decide what action to take. Under no circumstances, I believe, should any teacher, nurse, or any other school official be given the righ tto administer corporal punishment as an "at will" tool of discipline.
