THe 16s Illawarra steelers have won the Country championship
Made a little more difficult since the Harold Mats reps were not elligbile for this competition,so it was basicly a 2nd string Steelers team but still good anyway

In a hard fought game that they won 14-12 against group 2 the northern champs
they have brought the shield back to the Gong from Wyong for only the 2nd time.
It all started back at the long weeekend in june when the boys travelled to Cootamundra followed by most of their parents for 3 games,
The 1st game was Vs group20 at 1:30pm which were very strong and it showed as they won the game 16 - 14 and that was done only with a try 2 minutes from the end
THe 2nd game was Vs group 16 at 7:30 (and gee it was cold down there) and they ended up being to classy for the country boys winning 20 - 0
The final was held on Sunday and it ended up being against group7 who also could'nt play their Harold mats reps either
and it ended up a close game at the start but the boys showed what illawarra is all about and ended up winning 24 - 12
so then it was up to Wyong on the 10th july with this squad

Illawarra went to a lead of 6 - 0 after about 10min with atry in the corner fromIvan dungay and converted from the sideline from Ben Nagy
then to 10 - 0 5 min later after a neat little kick from Gaiter for Mat Bush to score out wide
From there Group 2 got the score back to 10 - 8 at half time with a mountain of possesion from a penalty goal and then a try in the corner
The 2nd half started like the 1st and it was a real arm wrestle until about 7 miutes from fulltime Group 2 scored what I would call a dubious try from what I saw his legs were over the sideline before he got the ball down,anyway the try was awarded and the conversion missed to make the score 12 - 10 to group 2
4 min to go kane Edwards takes it to the blind from dummy half and puts a perfect kick in for Man of the Match Ivan Dungay to just get his fingertips to it to score in the corner to win the game and Win the U/16 cup final and bring the shield back to the heart of Rugby League
