I think you are borrowing a page from ancient mythic history
(which is good), remember Atlantis? Check out books by Ignatius Donnelly (maybe only one "l" in Donnely) or other writers on Atlantis. That will give some food for thought.

Intellectual knowledge is start, but you really have a better
idea in not about how much one knows (which is a bit of a trivia-based thing, [who wants to be a millionaire, etc.]) but instead how inventive one is.
This could be tremendous fun since it is not age specific. It also relates to your idea of "saving Aguadiem."

A "sport" based on inventiveness combines knowledge with
interpretation and creativity skills. How are you going to keep the losers happy?
This is utopia.
