A template is a common DND utility that you apply to a "normal" creature. Such as the half-dragon template that was recently applied to Xalandra. Common templates are half-celestial, half-fiend, half-dragon. There are also templates for Zombies, Skeletons, Ghouls, etc.

It's true that Gargoyles are made of stone, but they are not Golems. A traditional gargoyle (see the above messsage entitled "For reference") is a magical beast. Which means it's bigger/better than an animal and it's a magical creature.

It adds +4Str, +4 Dex, and +8 Constitution. Plus, if you add the template to say, a 20th level fighter, he would be a force to be reconed with. Unless yer a high level mage that is... ;)

I don't believe Golems have alignments. If they do, it would be neutral. Check the Monster manual or the online SRD.
