Dear Friends and Family,
I first of would like to make a public THANK YOU to those who have kept in contact and have taken time out to email me. I am also encouraged by the things that are going on back home and it makes me feel that although I am all the way out here, I still feel connected to the present things in good ol' Cali.
Once more we have moved places. Right now we are working with Pastor Michael Pillay's church called Mt. Sinai Assemblies of God which meets at a local elementary school. Sean's team, my cousin for those of you who are not familiar, has also been working with him for the past couple of weeks before they came. As soon as we arrived and were introduced people would point at me and say "you're Sean's cousin!" so yeah, they were forewarned by him that I was coming :-). It is kind of nice to have a relation in a strange place as this, though we don't really see each other a lot. We moved to work with this particular church on Saturday... but before that, let me tell you.
Monday, Arlen and I were blessed by Erica, who is our main co-ordinator working with Megacities Perth by inviting us to go with her on a paid trip to a local game reserve. Along with Arlen's twin, Adrian, we took her Toyota Tazz to Tala Game reserve and enjoyed driving around the vast land taking pictures of zebras, girraffe, (we saw one rhino) and what other animals we saw there like hippos. Now that looked more like the Africa that i was expecting what with dry grass and acacia trees and all! Lots of gazelles all around. She also treated us to a late afternoon pre-dinner at the really nice restaurant that was there (my word! I've never been to such a ritzy restaurant before!) and we had club sandwiches and really nice dessert. Arlen ordered creme brulee and we all had a taste of it. I hear it talked of a lot but never knew what it was like so, wow! That was kinda cool. So that was a really nice day off (the rest of the team went to Gateway, acclaimed super mall of Durbanbecause I hear that it's the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere). It was such a blessing straight from heaven because I think that as leaders, we did really need that break and on our own we could not have afforded it. So wow, even in little things like a good day off, God shows us His Fatherhood by catering to our whims in such that I've always wanted to go to a place like that. He's so awesome!
Tuesday morning we found the most alive and Spirit-filled church in the Westville Prison. I heard that the guys that were in the section that we visited were there long-term coz it was the maximum security section. After a completely awesome worship with just a guitar and totally genuine inmate worshipers, the girls - Ilana and Kim, shared a songs and Chris, Ben and Emma each in turn shared the Word. Apparently, Pastor Michael (though we weren't working directly with him that week) had that specific slot every week to share with them but somehow Pastor Suren whom we were working with (he works as a prison guard) was able to pull some strings and he was able to get us in there and work Pastor Michael's slot. After lunch we did door to door evangelism. That was our main ministry till Thursday afternoon - door to door. We have found it rather difficult to minister the word here because many Hindus have completely fallen for the deception that "we all serve the same god but justworship in different ways." So in that they are closed to the gospel already. Other houses are either already Christian Indians and are saved, or are Zulu and open to the gospel. So we have seen some salvation. short note: many Indians have Zulu maids come in every week to do housework and laundry. But it's also sad to see that even in the Christian circles, some Indians still look down on the black South African people and see them as lower.
Friday we went to a school and shared a little motivation thing with them. We weren't allowed to say Jesus or anything like that. We still were able to do a skit, but other than that, we just shared the importance of trust and finding a good friend who will help you with life's choices. Then we went to the corporate worship in Chatsworth at the Church where Josh Gile's and Jessica's team are working in. That night we had the church's youth group and did sort of an open air except inside the church. Stayed up till 2 in the morning and moved with Pastor Michael Saturday.
Sorry that I have to cut this short but my time is running out.
God bless you all and thank you again for all of your prayers and your support!
In Christ
Kristine
I will try and get to individual people somehow next week.
