Particular Specification PS.12

PARTICULAR SPECIFICATION FOR CARPETING
1. This Particular Specification shall be read in conjunction with the General Specification for Building by Architectural Services Department , Hong Kong, 2003 Edition.
2. Carpet wrapped in heavy duty polythene or similar impervious materials shall be unwrapped and allowed to acclimatize before installation commences. Carpet delivered in rolls shall be unrolled and sufficient time allowed for acclimatization and release of tension before cutting and installing.
3.
(i) Fully adhered carpeting shall be heavy contact quality carpet (i.e. carpet suitable for use in busy offices, with public access and where wheeled trolleys may be used).
(ii) Traditional loosely laid carpeting shall be heavy contact quality Carpet of loop pile construction having a minimum weight of 949 gmlm2 and a minimum pile height of 4.50 mm.
4.' All carpet surfaces, including carpet and carpet tiles, shall be properly
“ Scotch-guarded" or other approved protective treatment.

Secure fully adhered carpets by using fully adhering method or release - bond method and loosely laid carpets by using gripper method,
6. Prior to completion of the installation, the Contractor shall provide the Maintenance Surveyor with two copies of the manufacturer's literature regarding maintenance and cleaning of the carpeting.
7.
(a) Carpet manufacturing company shall have acquired “ ISO
14001: 1996 - Environmental Management Systems" or
“ Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) of Denmark" or
similarly approved by the Maintenance Surveyor.
(b)Carpets shall be completely free of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC).
(c) Carpet backings shall be PVC free; materials to be cotton, jute,resin or polyurethane.
(d) Adhesives shall be free of synthetic latex, giving no volatile organic compound emission. Water-based adhesives or adhesive- free installation shall be used.
(e) Metal complex dyes and acid dyes shall not be used for dyeing.
(f) Carpets shall be long lasting, having a lifecycle not less than 10 years.

(g) Carpets shall not contain harmful substances and odour. They shall pass the testing and labeling program run by Institute ' s Indoor Air Quality Carpet Testing Programme " (U.S.A.) or “Danish Indoor Climate Labeling“(Denmark) or “GUT”(European association for environmentally friendly carpets) or similarly approved by the Maintenance Surveyor.

(h) Carpets shall be capable of being reused, recycled or acceptable by landfill for disposal. When reused, the above requirements shall be followed. In case of recycle or landfill; the car pets shall not cause contamination to the surrounding environment.
