While I agree it's hard to write something that won't draw comparisons in the SF fandom between one show and another,I find that while I completely believe in and enjoy the world of BtVS,I don't find the universe of Firefly very compelling. The characters are what I tuned in for on Friday and what I enjoyed, not the story wrapped around them.

And I think based on all the geeks out there that I know and love, they tend to look at story first then characters, which is why popularising Firefly to them has been so hard-some of them have a very short attention span and if you don't have them by the short hairs fast out of the gate, they are changing channels.

Quite honestly,if there had been anything else decent to watch on Friday nights I would not have stuck with this show at all,it pained me that much to see the awkward juxasposition of the Western theme with the hard SF and the less than compelling storylines unfold. But hey,I stuck it out and can finally admit it is worth watching. Like you,I hope it gets a second chance.
