$$ The painted filly watches Amadeus from some distance. She ponders his seemingly frantic behavior, his restlessness. Romany sighs as a warm evening breeze tumbles through her tangled mane. Amadeus' intense mood seemed to come at the smaller filly in waves, and she suddenly realized she might be sucked in by its undertow. Romany tosses her head slightly, lowering herself to the ground in hopes that the earth itself might keep her from sliding toward Amadeus and his mood. She imagined herself taking root, like one of the ancient evergreens, then laughed quietly at the idea. A horse taking root? How silly. $$
