Subject: which set

I am returning to golf after a 6 year hiatus. This makes such perfect sense to me. I have always thought longer and longer clubs just force people to overcompensate on the return.. messes up everything, especially as one ages. Anyway, I am a senior woman, good player, not great. I am sort of confused about which set to get. The blacks? Also, why is the headweight higher on the woods? Thank you.

Lori,

You can't go wrong with any of our lines of irons. I would suggest the Pro-line irons or Blackstones due to their lighter clubhead weight. Our irons have been rated Ultra Game Improvement by independent Maltby Playability Factor testing. Click here to learn more:
Maltby Playability Factor

All club lengths, clubhead lie angles, and clubhead weight should be the same within each functional grouping of golf clubs. What you have to bear in mind is that there is a distinct difference in design function between irons, fairway woods, and drivers. An iron is designed to pinch the ball against the turf using a down and through type of swing which requires an upright swing plane and a descending swing arc into the ball. On the other hand, fairway woods are designed to sweep the ball from the turf which requires a flatter swing plane and, hence, a longer club length than an iron. A driver is designed to sweep a ball that is teed up 1" to 2" off the ground which requires an even flatter swing plane than a fairway wood and, hence, a longer club length than the other woods within a set. As well as club length and lie angle, the clubhead weight will also be different between the three functional groupings.

David, Thanks for your response. It took awhile, but I'm finally ready to order my clubs.

Lori - which clubs did you end up getting, and how do you like them? I'm also a senior woman (71), used to be a decent player, but have lost significant distance due to age, injury and illness. I've been considering 1 Iron Golf clubs for a while and would appreciate your opinion!
