Paul you make an excellent point, teaching time at the Southern friendly unis is tiny in comparison to OXimpbridge

Cardiff currently have one teacher for a total of 4 hours of lessons a week,

Bath one teacher and 6 hours of lessons a week

Exeter one teacher and 3 hours a week

Bristol two teachers for about 4 hours a week each

Southampton two teachers for about 4 hours a week each

Surrey one teacher for 4 hours

Kent one teacher for 2 hours

Warwick one teacher for 4 hours

Cambridge/Oxford/Imperial have two or more teachers and probably well over 30 hours of lessons (group and team) a week.

However (running the risk of offending people), how many people seriously expect Cardiff to be a top university for a long period of time?

They are good simply because they have a few "scary" couples there simultaneously, and don't appear to have the necessary strength in depth (ie the C- and D-teams). I would personally be very surprised if Cardiff were still in the same position 4 years from now.

Thinking back a few years, remember how strong London were, and (to a lesser extent) Bristol. Now, where are they?

Paul
