You're right - Bristol too. The one year when we had several PGs almost finishing (John, Rosie, Przemek, Gail, Peter, Lavi) and a couple of experienced UGs (myself and Jenny) was the year when Bristol won SUDA. However, that year was unusual in having so many team members with several years of experience.

I think the most important bit to pass on is how to look competitive in terms of the way you put the team out at the competition. That way, the team achieve the best result that their standard of dancing deserves. It's a shame when the team dance well but are marked poorly because they didn't look the part - often team members get one shot, their final year, when they're competitive at the highest level they'll ever attain. It's important for them that they can achieve a result worthy of the work they've put in.

...and that was always what made the atmosphere at the SF different to the other competitions. Some of the biggest problems in the university circuit over the last few years (people wanting to swap teams halfway through the season, allegations of judge-rigging, couples not wanting to participate in the team environment etc.) come back to people taking it too seriously at the top end.
