Re: to the Future...for 20 wins? -- JCard, 21:53:45 02/29/04 Sun
I also heard reference to D squared 's 20 wins prediction for next season. He predicted 16-18 this year and with some luck he just might squueze in. But 20 wins will require more than just Denison's continued and encouraging improvement. Perhaps when Denison becomes stonger, he'll be enough of an interior presence that with Niesen they can work the ball "inside out" more. That would free up some shots for the plethora of jump shooters the Broncos have stocked. They also need a step up, go to dominant scorer, and while I think Perkins has some genuine game, I don't think he is a diffrerence maker. He and Bailey can be as good or better a guard tandem as Jones- Garnett or Jones- Fast. But Perkins "j"seems inconsistent and Bailey is frustratingly unpredictable. Some athleticism and range in the frontcourt would help too. A true 6'-6" to 6'-9" forward who can hit a 20 footer-- Pete Eisnreich. deteermination and hard work will carry you a long way defensively but lateral quickness and good reactions from a 'big' would be a big help. Henke was named 3rd team all metro defense in Minn., so he may be able to help at the three where we always give up size or quickness. Another PF/C who can score and help Denison and Neisen with the heavy lifting defensively is probably their prime need.
Also...given Rohe's absence with back problems again, I wonder if this hasn't been a reason he's not regained last season's form. I also wonder if DD will have a chance at that 20 game season if he doesn't get past SDU Friday.Matchup wise, I think the draw worked out as well for SCU as it could have, but I think they're vulnerable against both SDU and USF.

Amen -- Bro. JCARD ... -- Bronco66, 00:17:11 03/01/04 Mon
jCARD ...
I agree with your assessments ... a CONSISTANT scorer is needed ... someone who can take the pressure of a defense and still score .. or open up the scoring opportunities for others ...
maybe someone will find game this summer or ???
20 wins will perhaps be tougher than this year (were it could have happened) instead of 14-15 we could easily(???) be 18-11 right now ('Nova, Miss St., BYU, @Pepp) with just a couple of breaks ... and two more USD & USF in the tourney are still possibilites ...
and given the nagging injuries (Rohe, Legge, Bailey) DD is a wizard in making it this far ...
I'm with you ... a consistant scorer and a big to bang that can shoot and the Broncos will be a force in the WCC
see you at the tourney???

Park boys five bows to Hopkins

A 47-point first half propelled the Hopkins High School boys basketball team to an 86-58 win over St. Louis Park on Friday at the Hopkins High Lindbergh Center.
Although his team was soundly beaten, Park head coach Larry Ronglien saw some positive signs.
“We won a lot of loose balls for one thing,” Ronglien said. “And we didn’t give in. We don’t lose the whole season when we lose one game.
“Hopkins played very well. I was impressed with their level of effort.”
Seniors Jadee Jones and Mitch Henke led the Royals with 21 points apiece.
“We’ve watched Mitch Henke play for years,” Ronglien said. “He’s one of the best in the state, and not just talent-wise. Mitch does all the right things in terms of sportsmanship and team play.”
