Subject: Geracie the Idiot Speaks

Personally, I am very disapointed in Geracie's cdomments that DD will be the next casualty. Do writers only get off when there is something negative to write. Did he not watch the game versus Gonzaga? If you check out the Zags board even their fans think they were out coached. This just upsets me in my morning paper and cofee.

obviously Mr. G does NOT follow WCC sports ... no USF does not HAVE a BIG name on the line ... there AD's job is on the line ... and they have two or three BIG names being tossed about (my guess mr. g. is not aware of www.donscentral.com --- or the San Mateo Times ... or that other bay area paper ... the Chron---something)

a MAJOR difference between the ZAGS and the BRONCOS is that the "local" paper is behind and covers the "local" team ...

maybe when they are covering the "Tree" next preseason they might find that the SCU campus is not somewhere on the other side of the Hwy 17 summit ....

at least once a season you can count on Ray Ratto (no matter your personal preference) to write a rather insightful column about Dick and the Broncos ... thanks RAY

Davey will be back, Santa Clara says

KRUGER AGREES TO 5-YEAR CONTRACT TO COACH UNLV

Santa Clara Coach Dick Davey will return next season, a spokesman for the school said Monday.

``We're going to do an analysis of the program that we do for all the sports, and Dick Davey's employment status is not anything that will come under consideration,'' said Richard Kilwien, associate athletic director. ``A change in his status is not under consideration. He will be our coach next year.''

Kilwien noted that attendance jumped 77 percent over the previous season, ``an average of about 2,400 when we had been near the bottom of the league at about 1,300 a game. We also played a tough schedule with five games against teams now in the NCAA tournament.''

The Broncos finished 16-16 in Davey's 12th season as head coach after 15 seasons as an assistant to Carroll Williams. Davey has one year remaining on his contract.

Hopefully, he'll win 20, go to post season and get an extension. Another .500 or worse year will invariably lead to a change. Any new recruiting info' out there?
