In reply to: Bronco66 's message, "Broncs vs. the Boat Drivers" on 13:13:25 01/29/04 Thu

Listening to Dave lasy night and reading the Chronicle and Merc versions of the game, it seemed that the Broncos reverted to the 'bang 'em up, CYO style of ball of the late 60's through 80's. Given the lack of athleticism on the team, this is not a bad thing and will work against most of the conference. How it would play against the bigger and deeper St Mary's and Zagland is another question. Still, you'd rather see them aggressive and physical than passive. Any comments from those who were there?
Another question, while Howell is not scoring as much this year, he seems to be blocking a lot more shots. Is it improved timing, better help defense, conditioning?
Also Angley knocked down 33 in a losing effort v. Chico this weekend. NFI. Hopefully he's getting his touch back. Also thanks again, Big Valley for the updates.

Yeah it was a really naging game..sloppy, but a win is a win. I think perhaps or biggest problme right now is the living and dying by the 3 ball. Sure, it gives us a chance against the Zags, but it also gives us a real good chance of getting demolished. Kyle was again 1-10 tonight...will he return to All-Wcc form anytime soon?

no doubt Kyle's been struggling from the floor

but he led the team in Rebounds with 8 and late in the after missing the first two finished the game at the line where he got 9 of his 11 pts (9-11 FT)

I really got worried with those first 2 misses ... what with Portland surging and us in a "prevent defense" situation and Kyle just NOT getting his shots to drop (far too many ring-around-and-outs for him and the rest of the 3pt corps) ... the Broncs stayed with the Pilot's press fairly well ... but it was Kyle finally getting his stroke at the line that made the difference ...

without him the Broncs were 22/49 from the field (44.9%) and 9/22 from downtown (40.9%) those are fairly respectible Bronco numbers ... if Kyle can come back to his "WCC" form the Broncs have a good chance at ANYONE in the league ...

He likes the big games ... let's see how Tomorrow looks

Go Broncos !!!!

[> [> what I saw -- Bronco66, 16:18:22 01/30/04 Fri

to a large point it looked to me like then players doing what the coaches are telling them (finally?)

the plan to beet Portland was to beat them to the spot .. not to let them RUN their offense ...

on numerous occasions the Pilots had to use almost the whole 35 sec. to get a shot off (and then drained a 3 with a hand in their face ... ouch!)

the was a lot of falling? down ... so much that I was beginning to wonder if they changed somthing about the floor ... cleaner, wax, sneaker repellant???

Howell seems to be "attacking" more --- reaching a little further, jumping a bit more ( maybe the influence of Doron ... who is almost always "attacking" and Travis who is the Animal ... and learning how to use the "Taz" within) Jim is also getting a bit of a mid-range shot ... which I think he is fully capable of and would make a huge difference in his and the Bronco's game ... maybe a year too late to start to develop ... but ????

this Sat will be another big Mid-Term for the Broncs ... unfortunately the ZAG's may be up as well after the USD debacle ... so this might just have to suffice as a tune-up for the March rematch ...

Go Broncos ...
