Welll I was in the class of 1954 and lived at 2720 Adams St, which was just past Evans St. In those times Adams was a dead end and we lived on the end before moving up a couple of lots and building a house in 1952. I worked with the son in law of the Millers. You brought that name back to me, I could not think who owned that store.
You mentioned the dining room at the Dairy Cheer. That was up on top of the hill on 13th. Directly under that on old 13th was where the original store was. It was just a small square building with no inside facilities at all.
When I went to grade school, Poage was just a figment of the imagination. I attended Oakview, walking thru 6 foot of snow and sometimes barefoot!! Ha ha. Oakview then was a 2 story building with about 10 or 12 classrooms and NO GYM. We got a sliding board way back there and thought we had died and gone to Heaven. After leaving Oakview and going on to Putnam, they built a Gym. After leaving Putnam and going on to Ashland High, they built a Gym. Seems like as I left they would build a Gym. Hope the folks behind me enjoyed it!
I live in South Point, OH now but I still love Ashland and always will. Several of my friends went on elsewhere, but I never had that big of a desire to move on. Used to tell them I moved South when coming to Ohio, because South Point is actually farther South than Ashland. There were still several Confederate Flags here when I came in 1972.
Good chatting with you Jonathan. Maybe we could get together some time and I'll tell you more of the antics that went on when we still walked everywhere, or rode a bicycle.
