That may very well be the case. Bill gave me the impression that the Clovis Recording Studio was not always a resounding financial success. He supported this by explaining that Buddy (and no doubt others)could not always avail themselves of NEW reels of unused tape as Norman had run out. Hence the positioning of some recordings "mid tape" as I explained earlier. Minimum studio recording speed was 15 inches per second. Assuming 2400 feet on a 10 inch reel: this would give you about 30 minutes of recording time! Not a lot! On a 3600 feet reel this time would increase to about 45 minutes. You can see that a fully functioning recording studio required a LOT of tape which was not cheap! It would not surprise me if Norman was occasionally compelled to search for blank tape space on previously used reels, which would certainly support your comment regarding his knowledge of Buddy's demos prior to becoming ill.
