 Adding additional importance to the argument for Tommy and Waylon getting seats on the plane - they weren't just Buddy's band. They played for all the acts. There are photos on the WDP showing horns, and both Dion and Ritchie played guitar, but they were always backed by Tommy, Waylon, and (before he was hospitalized) Carl Bunch.

I could see Dion overhearing plans for the flight, including the switching of seats, where the cost was discussed. Who knows? Maybe Buddy was talking through the idea of chartering a plane, and the passenger list was discussed before he settled on giving them to Tommy and Waylon. I'm sure he felt awful about what happened to Carl, and wanted to protect them. As much as we think we know, we'll never know for sure, but I'm inclined to believe Tommy and Waylon.
