 I never got the impression the documentarians were scam artists.

They went through the trouble of tracking down Frankie Sardo, and they spent a lot of time with Carl Bunch and the Belmonts.

I've always assumed they were frightened by lawyers (from either the widowed bride or whatever entity owns Buddy and his music) and were worried about lawsuits.

The interviews were good, but unfortunately the audio was subpar, at least in the youtube clips I saw. Interviewees were not recorded properly. It made the whole project seem amateurish.
