i do not want to ask my boss for a raise if it is not merited or if i am making an appropriate wage already so i need advice. i have been with my family for 14 months. i started at 10$ hr and recieved a raise of 1$/hr at my one year which was two months ago. I have a 7 yr old, twin 20 month olds, and we are expecting a new baby in less than two weeks. i work 9 1/2 hour days mon-fri. when the children nap, i help the mother with her website work doing typing, stuffing envelops, photocopying. i rarely take breaks durring the day, only if there is NO website work to do (which is very rare) or if i am not feeling well. i do not get personal or sick days or any health benifits. The mother has told me she will not be slowing down work on her site when the new baby arrives and she is not breastfeeding because then she would be the only one who could feed the new baby and she enjoys the freedom of working on her site and running errands as she pleases because she has me to care for the kids. i do ALL the family laundry including some cleaning chores and daytime meals. She indicated when i got my raise at 1 yr, it included bringing a new baby home but we never talked about it. the baby was not planned and we didn't discuss it at the interview because they were not going to have anymore. i feel i should get another raise when the baby arrives because i will then have 3 children under the age of 2 in my care and will still be expected to complete my other tasks (including work on the website when the children are asleep). For the record i did not originally work on the site, and have never been paid extra for that work. i started because when her husband had vacation days a year ago, she thought that if he saw me reading a book or with little to do around the house, that he would decide i was not necessary, so i've worked on the site ever since. and do enjoy some of the work, but it is almost a second job while already at my full time job. if i ask for more, i would like to be able to show her something that says it's a fair standard to ask for more, but i am not sure how to go about any of this. am i expecting too much or do my responsibilities merit another raise and if so, how much??? i live in Canada, so i realize your answers might be generic, but i appreciate them anyways. i hope i gave you enough information to at least give you something to work with. thanks for any advice you might have. it's appreciated.
