Subject: PSA is awesome just a few ideas

One of the things I love about this sport is its comitment to constant improvement I honestly believe PSA could become Americas ringsport and that PSA dogs can compete against the worlds other ring dogs in Mondio competition. Not only compete but win! Here are just a few ideas ive been having:
An extra bite in the PDC:
One bite that I loved in personal protection training but that I have never seen in sport is a rescue bite. A dog in a down or stay either in a field or in a vehicle and the handler walks about 40 yards away from the dog. A decoy comes out from hiding and attacks the handler. The dog, either on command or automaticly, comes to the aid of the handler. The handler then returns to the vehicle or the spot where the dog was on a down and outs and recalls his dog.
Also about the PDC: Make it a title like the brevet, an optional title before PSA1 novice. I think youll find both Mondio and French Ring's Brevets similar.

Distractions in PSA1 Novice:
No water, I know this will get me crucified, but I think water distractions are too much for the novice division. I love water distractions and my dog has no problems with them its just that in the novice division I think its too much.

Distractions in PSA1 open or Novice:
I think any distractions should be able to be held in one hand. Dogs who take a forearm presentation can effectively eliminate one distraction, I know points are taken off for a forearm presentation but in some instances the forearm dog may have an unfair advantage.

Courage test:
I think the judge should ask the team where the dog targets and reconfirm it with the decoy. We have the most explosive courage test in dog sports I would like to see a last second verification of the dogs targeting for both the decoys and dogs safety. This will also eliminate the "whoops I forgot you asked for the forearm" scenario.

Use of a Bicycle:
From our KNPV influence I do very much enjoy the bicycle bites. However I think PSA needs to invest in bicycles with the spokes and chain covered. I would pull my dog if I had to do a scenario with exposed spokes and chain Im sorry I just couldnt take the risk.

Use of an Air Horn:
Awesome Idea just make sure that if the air horn is to be blasted on the bite that it is very far away from the dogs head. Like the gunshot bites in ring the gun is very far away. Air horns ring my ears I couldnt imagine being a dog with an air horn a foot away from my head. This is a level of distraction I would reserve for PSA1 open as well.

Allow Police service dogs to compete in PSA1 novice. After catching 24 police and air force dogs in a big trial here in Utah I can safely say being a police dog does not equate to be a schutzhund or ring1 dog. PSA should be the Police teams sport of choice and I think this tiny little thing might bring a few more into the sport.

PSA should put togeather a Mondio team. Unfortunately PSA does not have the credibility it deserves quite yet. I think this is because of all the fly by nite american dogs sports that have come before it and that currently exist. I heard someone say "Oh I saw that k9 pro sports bullshit I wasnt impressed" I said "no thats completely different this is PSA" and he said "oh their all the same" My dream for PSA is that it will be considered "AMERICAS DOG SPORT" PSA is so american its like a mirror image of our country. Take what works and what youve been given and make it better. Make it more applicable and realistic. Thats the spirit of PSA and why it has grown so quickly.

The overwhelming majority of people who are exposed to PSA love it or at least have a great respect for it. I think a PSA mondio team will expose that many more people to our sport and encourage cross over. At the low levels PSA and Mondio training are so similar I cant believe we dont support eachother. Mondio has an absolute tiny amount of trials and PSA is huge I would think that these Mondio folks should take every opportunity to trial with us.

Anyway all of this because I love the sport and want to continue to see it grow and be recognized as americas dog sport.
