Dear Bibi

I felt compelled to post this after reading such a moving poem. One which I can relate to from too many similar personal experiences lately.
Fondly
Peter

The Legacy

What is my legacy
what have I gained from those I have known?
A way of speaking here,
an odd expression there.
The way I look when angry
or how I feel when sad,
or how my face is open
for all to read my mind.

These are my legacy,
not money or property or artefacts.
Little fragments pasted in
to the mosaic of my being,
stuck to me from all those
I have brushed against in life,
building this random collage,
unique, never to be repeated.

I will pass this legacy on,
I will flake off fragments on those I meet.
Some will be just me,
others will be borrowed,
but all will live on
in those on which they fall,
creating another pattern
on which a life is formed.

The legacy just grows and grows
each generation adds its unique blend.
So those who die are never lost,
we can see them every day,
in things we say and do ourselves,
by watching for those little signs
that mark where they have left
that fingerprint of what they where.
